Home Library Service – books delivered to your door

Home Library Service – books delivered to your door

by Sue Ward

Would you like a regular doorstep delivery of your favourite books or audio books?

Our libraries are open and safe to visit but we understand that you may not be ready to do so yet and are missing having books to read or listen to.  The Home Library Service works with volunteers to deliver books to people who, perhaps because of ill health or a disability, find it difficult to get to the library or to carry books. All our books are placed in quarantine after use so are safe for you to use and they will be left on a pre-arranged date in a secure place at your home and collected and quarantined afterwards.

We will contact you to ask about your reading interests and then choose books specially to suit you and arrange a regular delivery, normally once a fortnight. You can also request your favourite books and authors and different formats such as large print or audiobooks – and it’s all free.  If you prefer, we can choose your books and you can arrange for a friend or relative to collect and return them.  We can also do one-off collections of books with our ‘Select & Collect’ service if you don’t want regular deliveries.

To find out more about receiving the service, or about volunteering to deliver books, just contact your local library.
