The Globe Honoured at Hambleton & Richmondshire Community Learning Partnership Awards

by Gill DeCosemo

Representatives of The Globe attended the 2018 Hambleton & Richmondshire Community Learning Partnership Awards in Northallerton Library on Tuesday 23 October.

We were delighted to be presented with the Informal Learning Group Achievement Award on behalf of all our Volunteers.

Also, our NYCC Library Supervisor Jackie Nithakorn (a former The Globe Volunteer) won the Work Related Learning Award.

The nomination for The Globe Volunteers was as follows:

“The volunteers come from a range of backgrounds and experiences with the same motivation of wanting to keep their local library open to the benefit of the whole community.

They have learnt the procedures and processes that NYCC wish them to follow, including how to operate two computer systems; how to use ‘SignUp’ (an electronic rota system); developed their customer care skills; event planning and organisational skills. They work together to write their own ‘procedure manual’, ‘We do it Our Way’ and are eager to learn from each other.

They are proud of the library and its potential and encourage groups and individuals to use and visit the library.

The learning they are doing, their passion and enthusiasm is what makes them such a great team to work with.

They are a real live example of a successful ‘community of practice’ in action.”

We didn’t realise we’d done so much, but we are delighted to be nominated and to win this award.
