Two Miniature Horses in the Library

Two Miniature Horses in the Library

by Gill DeCosemo

On the Friday of the Spring half term The Globe was visted by Blondie and Wish - two Amrican miniature horses owned by Katy Smith.

Katy specialises in working with the breed and takes her charges into hospitals, dementia units, schools and libraries. She has hit the headlines recently because she is training  a miniature horse to assist as a guide for a partially sighted Blackburn man who is dog phobic.

Katy, who runs KL Pony Therapy uses the miniature horses to “bring a smile to people’s faces” – and as a possible therapy to aid in the reminiscences and communication of dementia sufferers.

On June 1 Blondie trotted into The Globe library with her friend Wish to meet youngsters who are on school half term. 48 youngsters enjoyed a morning of horse-related crafts and activities - including a mucking out the stables challenge.

Blondie and Wish were very well behaved and didn’t leave us any “presents”!
